Meet the people
After starting my career in Commercial Recruitment I found myself falling into Welfare to Work. Very quickly I realised that I had a passion for helping people to move towards work, get a job and seeing them progress on in their career. I've been fortunate to work with and learn from some fantastic organisations, both in the public and private sector, where great leaders have inspired me not only to make a difference in the organisation that I work within, but on the wider Employment and Skills Market. And that's why I set up Employment and Skills Innovation Services. We're driven by the desire to make a significant economic and social contribution to the UK and we're achieving this through helping the market to innovate and deliver success.
After a long and interesting career for several public sector organisations, across a diverse range of policy areas, including; Sectors, Devolution, LEPs, City and Growth Deals, in 2014 I decided that it was time for a change. I left the Skill Funding Agency at a time when the Employment and Skills market is facing some its biggest challenges, so I wanted to continue to work in a role that would enable me to bring the value of my experience, insight and expertise to a range of organisations across the sector, helping them to rise to these challenges. Working with Employment and Skills Innovation Services gives me the opportunity to do just that and I'm looking forward to working with the sector long into the future.
Dr. Gareth Thomas
I originally trained as an Analytical Industrial Chemist, and spent time in my early career working in Industry with several chemical companies. Having worked locally for the LSC on Employer focussed programmes, I moved into National policy implementation roles including leading Basic Skills and Integrated Employment and Skills policy implementation. Having more recently led the SFA's East Midlands work on City Deals, ESF and work with DWP I felt it was time to use the skills and knowledge I had developed to support Employers, Partners and Providers to develop and implement their Skills and Employment Strategies. In October 2014 I left the SFA to start my own business as well as work with Employment and Skills Innovation Services. The innovative approaches we take allow me to support organisations to achieve their goals, primarily through the development of their people.
We're building the team throughout 2015. Get in touch if you're interested in becoming part of the team that's changing Employment and Skills.
